Craig,
I wanted to be a part of this book just to help everyone else in it encourage you through letting you know that your decision to give this season of your life to college ministry has had an impact on who I am today. It’s kind of funny writing this because as I was thinking about how you have encouraged me, challenged me, walked through some scripture with me, and talked about tons of different things with me over the past couple years, I realized, that after getting to know you for a couple weeks when we first met, I never thought of you as a “campus minister” or anything like that, my memories are just of a guy that loved Jesus and loved me enough to take time and be a part of my life. I will always consider you one of the best friends I have had in my time in Greenville. You have taught me a lot about the importance of Scripture, and how crucial really knowing what the Word says is to knowing who God is and what he is really like, and knowing myself and what I am really like. I really enjoyed being part of one of your bible studies, walking through Jonah with you, Nate, and Travis, and Studying the Word during our time in Life Group together. But in thinking about the ways I have been affected by having you as a friend I see the truth in that phrase “more is caught than taught.” For some reason I have always watched closely the people that I respect and look up to. I think I like to see how they live out what they say and how they react to different situations and it really helps me check myself and see sin in my life. You definitely aren’t Jesus, but I think you are a pretty good guy to look up to. I have learned more from you just by watching you live your life, and love your family, and have normal conversations, and interact with different types of people than I ever could just listening to you teach something. Ever since we thought we were going on staff, you and Kim have really been the only family we have interacted with on a consistent basis that is in the same boat we are getting into. Raising support, dealing with weird work hours, interacting with college students who have different personalities and stubborn beliefs, and raising kids at the same time! All these things are hard, and that’s the job we have chosen. I count it as a great blessing that Tiffany and I got to watch you guys do ministry on the campus while staying committed to your marriage and your kids. I am very thankful to have met you and spent the last few years as your friend.
Love you man,
Grady
